MARTA — THE QUEEN OF FOOTBALL
Directed by: Leandro HBL & Carol Caffé
Before becoming Queen, Marta was a girl who had to insist.
Born in the interior of Alagoas, in a place where football seemed to belong to men, she discovered early on that playing football meant defying rules that no one had written, but that everyone knew. Then came the prohibitions, the beatings from her brother, the prejudice, the lack of opportunities and the certainty that this was not a path destined for a girl. But Marta continued.
Between childhood and the world’s great stadiums, football becomes a territory of resistance and freedom. The same stubbornness that made her return to the field after being sent away would become the strength capable of taking her from small Dois Riachos to the top of world football.
Directed by Leandro HBL and Carol Caffé, Marta — The Queen of Football revisits this trajectory based on the memories of Marta herself and the people who followed her transformation: from the girl who faced the rules of her time to the woman who broke boundaries, conquered the world and helped change the place of women within football.
More than the story of an extraordinary athlete, the film is the portrait of a woman who spent her entire life paving a path where there was no path — until she turned her own story into a story shared by millions of girls.
